Check out our Swimming page for details of the superb open air pools in the area during the summer months and of the the lake at Guadalest. Also there is some great Canyoning in Spain and several trips in the Guadalest valley. Please visit our canyoning page
Traditionally much of a holiday on the Costa Blanca will be spent on one of the wonderful beaches and there are hundreds of miles of them.
Most of the major resorts have facilities for water sports such as wind surfing, water skiing, boating, jet-skiing etc and several have diving and snorkelling available. Scuba-diving has taken off in a big way on the Costa Blanca. Click here for more information.
Please note we do not provide swiming, canyoning or scuba diving activities or instruction. These are undertaken at your own risk.
There are several great swimming pools in the valley open during the summer months. Guadalest pool is open the longest from June to the end of September. Other are open July and August. Prices are no more than 3 Euros for a day pass. The pools never seem to get busy and the settings are truly amazing. All pools have a small cafe for refreshments/ice-creams, etc.
On the edge of Abdet village is a delightful pond full of fresh spring water. Although not suitable for young children it is a superb place to swim!
The Guadalest swimming pool allows you to take in a picnic and provides plenty of seating in a spectacular setting. It also has night swimming on Tuesdays and Fridays, this is something that should not be missed!
You can also swim in the lake at Guadalest, although this is certainly only advisable for good swimmers.
The canyon in Abdet (in the Alicante - Valencia region of the Costa Blanca) is called the Barranco de Meli and it offers great sport year round. In summer it can be done just in shorts and t-shirt (except after heavy rain). If the water is at all cool then you will need a wetsuit (this also helps with your bouyancy). we have some available for use by guests.
There are several short abseils and some great jumps into deep pools, as well as plenty of easy scrambling and some swimming. There are also other canyon trips close to the village, including a dry canyon with some spectacular abseils. All such trips must only be done with the correct skills and equipment. We can give you details of local guides.
Scuba Diving on the Costa Blanca coast around Calpe is possible all year around. It offers a variety of affordable rates. From personal experience we recommend Les Basetes Dive Centre. They offer scuba diving, boat trips, night dives, try dives and much more. Scuba diving in Spain also includes PADI training from Open Water to Dive Master, SeaDoo under water scooters and under water video equipment with the latest diving equipment. All courses are available in English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Belgian and French.
There are many good venues, but we recommend Les Basetes near Calpe and it may also be worth exploring further afield - Granadella and La Barraca (Jávea) are very scenic locations. You can rent snorkelling equipment from Les Basetes for around 10 Euros a day.
Take along some stale bread to feed the fish and you will soon be surrounded by a good variety of species. You may also see Octopus which are quite inquisitive.
