Here are some comments
made by recent visitors to our houses in Abdet
February 2009
We enjoyed the vuelta de serella, fabulous roads, like a cycling equivalent of a groomed piste! Also the almond blossomed terraces and the sunny skies were a welcome change from the UK.
We also did a ride to Sella for lunch and then came back up over the Pueto Tudons having spent the 12km going downhill thinking "I'll never get back up this!"
Great place, Jo and Fergus

February 2009 - Cycling Weekly
Finding the perfect location close to transport links and the terrain needed for a cycling photo shoot is always a challenge. Tom’s villas in Abdet tick all the boxes - only an hour from Alicante airport, in the middle of mountains, outstanding views down to the coast and spacious interior.
Cycling Weekly’s Health & Fitness magazine based themselves at number 19 for a week to shoot the upcoming spring issue. Tom was fantastic with the organisation, accommodating our last minute change of plans and extending our stay. The villa was spacious, with plenty of amenities and space for all our kit, bikes and photographic equipment.
The cycling in the surrounding region offered spectacular terrain and views, making capturing the perfect shoots a pleasure. Every time the models pushed out the door there was another hairpin to whiz down or a mountain to challenge on. Check out the report here at or pick up the latest spring issue of Health & Fitness on sale at the end of February 2009. |

"Great
spot and we'll definately stay again... Got some good
routes in. Sella as always immaculate bolted routes,
but most memorable probably trad routes on Toix Sea
Cliffs (Mystery tour) and Cordoba multi pitch routes.
Next visit more trad big routes and mountain biking."

"We
had a great time thanks. Lots of new development on
the Guadalest crags, some excellent routes upto about
7a/b on the right hand crag accessed through the village.
Some of the best road biking I've done - Cheers." Darran, Matlock
"Hi there,
and thank you for a fantastic stay. Your house, it's
location, the weather, the climbing and our friendly
host Dan were all excellent. Hope to do it all again
soon, maybe then with some of my more extreme friends
as I see the possibilities are endless for all sorts
of adrenaline fixes. By the way. If you haven't already
tried to walk the river bed from Guadalest to Abdet with
a dog after dark - don't."

"We all
had a really good time climbing at Toix, Sella, Guadalest,
Abdet and Reconco.
It was I must stress really good to be in a Spanish village and to be able to
retreat from the chaos at the coast every night,
we had a great holiday and will no hesitate to recommend Abdet to others."

house is lovely, as is the village"

"Thanks for everything.
Our stay at your pretty house was great. We loved it
and there is something very tranquil and serene about
your villa,
Abdet is beautiful and the food at the local restaurant was great.
So thanks again and I hope to be back at your place very soon.

"Had a
wonderful time. House was very homely and we settled
in straight away. Sue's son said that he liked it there
as it was just like
home! Amazing views and scenery. We found and used
all the local pools as well as the nearby barranco. Got
to know the locals at the bread and fruit van. We
went on the coastal train and visited Calpe and Altea as
well as Guadalest and the waterfalls. We had a brilliant
time and would like to return when the weather is a bit
cooler to do some more walking"

"The
scenery is awesome and the Guadalest Valley is really
spectacular! I can see why so many British expats are
enjoying their sunny lifestyle in the Costa Blanca region!
The Costa Blanca Way is a fabulous "creation," mixing surfaced roads with old
mozarabic and mule tracks,
we started in Val d-Ebo and made our way to Abdet, so we covered a good bit
of ground in a few short days"

"This is a pearl! What an unexpectedly
lovely find! A treasure! Since I booked just from information
on the website, I wasn’t sure if reality would measure
up to my imagination. But the house is much nicer, with
more character, decorated in better taste and in better
condition than I expected, and the high expectations I
had for the beautiful Sierra Serella were more than met.
Wonderful surprises like the beautiful, fresh air after
the blinding August heat at the coast, fantastic swimming
in mountain cascades, gorging onesself on blackberries
and figs along the way, and the superb sunset from Confrides
castle are some of my most pleasant memories.
I wish I’d booked
an extra week, and am already planning my next trip!
Of course, all my friends are hearing about it too, so
poor Tom and Barbara are sure to be soon swamped with
visitors! Thanks
again for everything! See you soon!"

"We stayed for a week in Abdet
and spent a day climbing here but could easily have climbed
for several more. Fantastic rock quality, lovely well bolted
single pitch routes and an amazing setting. Well worth
a visit "
Andy - UK
"The climbing was superb – on
pristine rock with solid shiny new bolts – all
to ourselves. Too much to do and not enough time to do
it. We ventured up to the Serrella Slab on a bakingly
hot day. What a place, what a route – only managed
to top-rope it though.(photo below) A bit too intimidating
to try a lead!."
Ian - Scotland

"The trip was awsome. We climbed everyday, just had a break during the middle of the day as the temperature was a little to much (July). Thanks very much for the appartment. the place was amazing. Everyone was blown away at how nice the place was. We ended up climbing mainly locally. The routes at Guadalest were really cool and fresh. There was still friction on the limestone. Where as Sella alot of the routes were really polished."
